About
PhotoForum Inc. is a New Zealand non-profit incorporated society dedicated to the promotion of photography as a means of communication and expression. We maintain a book publication programme, and organise occasional exhibitions, workshops and lectures, and publish independent critical writing, essays, portfolios, news and archival material on this website - PhotoForum Online.
PhotoForum activities are funded by member subscriptions, individual supporter donations and our major sponsors. If you would like to join PhotoForum and receive the subscriber publications and other benefits, go to the Join page. By joining PhotoForum you also support the broader promotion and discussion of New Zealand photography that we have actively pursued since 1974.

Reviews, Essays, Featured Portfolios
Through the support of Creative New Zealand, the PhotoForum website, originally launched in 1996, was redesigned and re-launched in 2018 as PhotoForum Online, commissioning reviews and essays from a range of experienced writers. Selections for review are not influenced by whether an artist or writer is or has been a member of PhotoForum Inc.

Member Portfolios
Selections of work by members of PhotoForum. All financial members are encouraged to have a portfolio of work presented here.
Specs: 8 - 16 images, jpeg, 1500 pixels on long dimension. Please supply captions and a brief text about the work, and a website address for further information and /or purchase. Send to photoforumnz@gmail.com
Books
PhotoForum has been publishing books and magazines since the launch of Photo-Forum magazine in 1974. PhotoForum members receive two new publications each year. For a full ist of publications see our bookstore here.
Submissions
The best way to have an exhibition, publication or event listed in our news feed, and considered for review, is to let us know about it. Please send details, including title, venue, and opening and closing dates, along with a website link and around 150 words of text and at least one image, to photoforumnz@gmail.com.
Ideal image size is 1500 pixels on the long dimension, jpeg format. Please also supply picture caption details.
We also welcome proposals for bodies of work to be considered for publication as a featured portfolio or PhotoForum paper publication. We also welcome offers of existing essays to be re-published with permission on PhotoForum Online.
Executive Committee
PhotoForum activities are made possible by the time and work volunteered by the executive committee. Positions on the committee are contestable and are voted on by members at the Annual General Meeting, usually in July.
Open Calls
We do irregular open calls for proposals for online and paper publications. These are publicised on the website and through our newsletter.
