Chris Traill is a well established professional photographer from Auckland. He has a Master with Distinction qualification within The New Zealand Institute of Professional Photography.
Outside of his mahi as a commercial photographer he is also a fine artist, regularly shooting personal projects.
Chris has a fascination/obsession with photographing foliage, flora and fauna and these images are part of an expansive body of work continually in progress, Toi Toi Design.
Chris escapes city life to his holiday home in Raglan often and enjoys capturing the West Coast seascapes. He has visually explored New Zealand extensively and has developed a unique eye and style for capturing the land, sea, sky and the people of Aotearoa.
Filmpop is a limited edition photograph of a recently rediscovered collection of 35mm film canisters, collected in 1983 and 84, while working as a printer at Foto Inn, a one hour photo lab located on South Molton St, Westend, London.
The empty film canisters were just discarded once they'd been through the C41 chemical developing process. London being such an international hub, the lab processed a lot of different and unique film brands from all around the world.
The collection sat in a cupboard for 35 years. After this passing of time and realising their beauty as a design document and a piece of decorative pop art, a display box was designed to showcase all 100 canisters.
It simply pays homage to film and it's purity, celebrating nostalgia and the resurgence of the love of the film.
