“ABJECT”: Something that is neither subject nor object, but rather something that disturbs identity, system and order.
- Julia Kristeva
ABJECT is a collection of six unique, queer experiences across Aotearoa. This newly published photobook combines handwritten interviews and film photography to understand how societal norms and subjection can shape queer identities, self-perception and experiences. ABJECT is shot in Wellington and Auckland, focusing on the queer cultural significance of K Road and Cuba Street.
Throughout the course of this project, I have been in contact with Fiona Clark, who generously lent her expertise to help guide my work.
