Laree Payne Gallery is delighted to present Eve, the first witch, a two person exhibition by Gallery artist, Laura Williams alongside photographer, Ann Shelton (courtesy of Two Rooms Gallery).

With four new paintings by Williams' to sit alongside four photographic works by Shelton, Eve, the first witch, by way of being, draws out themes that exist within each artists' respective practice both obvious and less so. Sharing a love of research which sees no bounds, an obsession with flowers and their symbolic potential and a deep-seated awareness of the impact of Christianity on the Western world, Eve, the first witch is a gothic exploration and redress of historical imbalance, inaccuracy and injustice.

Via a devoutly feminist lens, Williams and Shelton pursue parity by de-coding, unlocking, re-coding and re-telling both stories and myths which continue to shape behaviour today. Aesthetically divergent, each artist offers imagery which is ripe, ready to unpack.

Ann Shelton has a solo exhibition opening on the same night at Ramp Gallery (The Wintec Gallery on Collingwood Street) entitled worm, root, wort... & bane which begins at 4.30pm.
